Guys, I have a confession to make. I got into the Easter chocolate a bit early when writing my April forecast. And by chocolate, I mean wine.
So, the forecast may be a bit more, um, lively than usual. (I believe glass number two came around Mars in Cancer.)
April feels like two different months in some ways. There’s a big shift in the second half of the month to some more grounded but fixed energy. Read on to get the monthly lowdown and plan accordingly.
April 3 – Mercury enters Aries
If you’re one of my astrology students, you often hear me talk about what it’s like to live with two Mercury in Aries individuals (husband and daughter). Let’s just say that I’ve developed a thick skin because they are very honest (read: crushingly blunt at times). But I know they’ll never let me leave the house looking silly, and if I did something wrong, they’ll let me know. I admire the inquisitiveness Mercury in Aries individuals have. They have such a natural curiosity. (Curious George must have had a Mercury in Aries.) Sometimes it can get annoying… as I write this, my almost-four-year-old is asking me “What is it called when two people sing a song together?” “A duet honey.” “What about three people?” “A trio. “What about four people, five people, six people, seven people… what about a hundred people singing together?” “Um, a large choir.” “What about a thousand people?… What’s that sound? What are you typing? Is that a spider? Why are you frowning?” You get the idea.
Mercury in Aries people are always asking “what’s that?” They are natural adventurers. And because they ask so many questions, they take in great heaps of knowledge. My husband calls this his talent for “useless knowledge” but it’s far from useless. He’s the smartest guy I know (but don’t tell him I told you that. He’s a Leo rising and doesn’t exactly need the compliment.)
For the next three weeks, tap into this cardinal curiosity. Ask questions. Try something new. Learn something, two things or maybe, as my daughter would say, a thousand new things.
April 9 – Mars square Neptune
This is a good day for playing hooky. A Balsamic Moon in the sign of Pisces combined with a Mars-Neptune square screams Netflix, a good book and an escape from reality. It’s a bit of a low energy day, so just go with it.
April 11 – New Moon in Aries & Venus square Pluto
Let there be light! A New Moon at 22 degrees of Aries screams let’s get this started, whatever your “this” might be. A Venus-Pluto square this same day could quash a bit of the excitement, so maybe focus on developing your new activity plan or list and give it a day or two before jumping out of the nest expecting to fly.
If you were born with a new Moon in Aries, you should be studied by science for your incredible enthusiasm, strength and pioneering energy.
April 14 – Venus enters Taurus
Yay! Venus enters Taurus today. You can turn off Miley Cyrus’s “Bad Karma” (your Venus in Aries song) and switch to “Red, Red Wine”. Eek. That’s terrible. I won’t make you listen to that. How about Billy Joel’s “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” instead? And that works so well because Mr. Joel has Venus in Taurus in his natal chart.
Venus in Taurus is just lovely. A queen on her own throne, she’s sensual, grounded and confident. She understands beauty. She lives for quality. No one better appreciates the fine things in life—good wine, good food, beautiful surroundings—like Venus in Taurus.
So, over the next few weeks, open that higher end bottle of wine you’ve been saving for a special occasion. You’ve got your special occasion: Venus is in Taurus.
April 16 & 17 – Sun & Mercury square Pluto
If it seems like everything is a battle, it is. Don’t fight. Just wait until the Sun and Mercury aren’t squared by Pluto anymore. Give it a couple of days.
April 18 – Sun conjunct Mercury
There’s a cheerfulness and chattiness about today’s energy. Appreciate it while it lasts!
April 19 – The Sun and Mercury enter Taurus
There’s a strong energy shift today when both the Sun and Mercury leave behind adventurous, animated Aries and head into calm, steady Taurus.
If you got things started while the Sun was in Aries, a Taurus Sun can see them through. It’s time to get your hands dirty (maybe literally) as you start to sift through your to do list. When I think of Taurus Suns, I can feel a heaviness. I don’t mean that they are overweight or depressed, but rather, their energy is so substantial. It’s weighty. It doesn’t flit and float like a Gemini. It doesn’t jump into situations like an Aries. It doesn’t have the seriousness or sense of duty as a Capricorn or the nervous undertones of a Virgo; however, there is a weightiness, a sense that this person is carefully considering the options before starting anything.
My daughter, an Aries-stellium, firecracker Ascendant and Moon, has a Taurus Sun… and while most times her Taurean nature feels buried if not crushed under the brushfire of her personality, once in awhile, it will creep out in the most random conservative and cautious ways. So, this almost-four-year old has to comment on anyone wearing jeans or pants with holes in them. She will let you know that you have holes in your pants. She will stop complete strangers on the street, let alone people coming into our house. It doesn’t make sense to her. “Do you know that you have holes in your pants? Why do you have holes in your pants?” she says.
“Pants need to cover your legs so they don’t get cold. Why would you want holes in them?” she says.
And I finally see that Taurus Sun poking out in her fierce stubbornness to embrace pants with holes in them no matter how many times she’s told that they’re supposed to be that way because it looks cool.
There’s something of the traditional in the Taurus Sun. They want good quality. They want things to last. They certainly don’t want holes in their pants.
With this in mind, Mercury, our planet of communication, also leaves behind boisterous and bold Aries and enters Taurus, adding a more calm, cool and collected approach to our communications.
April 22 – Venus conjunct Uranus
Earth Day gets a blast of excitement from a Venus-Uranus conjunction, but a stable Virgo Moon helps keep things on the calm side. I’ve been noticing that Virgo Moons have been great for making headway on some writing projects lately. Anyone else get this vibe? So, perhaps the Uranus connection to Venus and the Moon adds a flash of insight.
April 23 – Mars enters Cancer
The busyness of Mars in Gemini shifts rather abruptly to an emotional, conflict-avoiding crab as the planet of directness, assertion and energy heads into the sign of Cancer.
Do you know any Mars in Cancer individuals? Oh yeah, I can hear some of you say. Their super power? Disappearing into the sand as soon as someone starts to ask them a direct question.
Where did they go? They were here just a moment ago.
Yes, they are kind and nurturing and peace-loving people, but holy Hannah, they can pull a vanishing act that would make David Copperfield proud when they feel the slightest bit threatened. What constitutes a threat? Um… asking them what they had for breakfast this morning?
Okay, I’m being too hard on them. They’re not THAT touchy. But, yes, there’s lots of sensitivity here that requires some kid gloves. They truly shine when they can use that energy to nurture someone or something.
Over the next few weeks, don’t be surprised if you need more cuddle time, chill time or chocolate time than usual. Rest up because when Mars enters Leo in a few weeks, you’ll want to party all day and all night.
April 24 – Mercury conjunct Uranus
Flashes of insight are possible… so are technological breakdowns and mishaps. Don’t buy a new car or computer today… and maybe avoid heavy conversations. There’s a little too much uncertainty in the air. Get your “idea” book out and log some entries there. Speaking of ideas, I’ll be giving a talk on Making the Most of Your Solar Return for Astrology Niagara today. Register here to attend!
April 25 – Venus and Mercury square Saturn
There is lots happening in the sky just before our lunation tomorrow. With Venus and Mercury square Saturn, there’s a sense of limitations. Conversations with strangers, acquaintances, coworkers, friends and loved ones can just feel a bit off or strained. The funny thing is with Mercury conjunct Venus, you’ll want to engage in some chatter, but the content will somehow miss the mark or be misinterpreted.
April 26 – Full Moon in Scorpio
Our Full Moon this month has some pretty fixed energy. It takes place in the sign of Scorpio at 7 degrees and just before midnight. With the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus all in fixed signs, it doesn’t feel like there’s much give here. The two remaining planets, Mars and Pluto, are in cardinal signs, so there’s a complete lack of mutability here.
The feel of this lunation for me is one of stabilizing what is already in place. I don’t feel like there’s any movement possible here. There’s not even really a give and take. Wherever you stand on a subject, today is where you dig your heels in and say, this is my bottom line. This is who I am, this is how I feel, this is where I stand. Like it or leave it. So, is it an ideal day for a mediation? Not exactly. What you can use this energy for is bolstering up your confidence in a recent decision you have made. This Full Moon can be a commitment ceremony of sorts where you pledge your allegiance to some fundamental, unchangeable part of who you are that honours you and makes you feel worthy of goodness.
April 30 – Sun conjunct Uranus
This very fixed energy is freed up somewhat with the Sun’s conjunction to Uranus today. Think big. Think free. Just do it.
