This humble astrologer thinks there are ways to prepare and opportunities to be found in this stark situation particularly when tapping into Uranus in Taurus’s energy.

Uranus is a planet associated with freedom, reform, revolution, revelations, awakenings, separations, invention, genius, earthquakes and sudden events.

When the planet first entered the sign of Taurus about a year ago, we anticipated over the next seven years or so, our relationship to finance, possessions, land, food and agriculture would change. There was talk of creating frankenmeats (genetically engineered meats) and even the end of paper currency. So far we have seen some positive trends as we are already paying closer attention to our climate as well as our agricultural practices (and how inhumanely our animals are treated).

We’re only one year into this transformation, so we can only speculate what is still in store for us; however, COVID-19 is already significantly shaking up the world’s economy and food supply.

If we tap into the spirit of this placement, we can look for new ways of sourcing and acquiring food.

There should be a record amount of people growing their own food this summer. And, for those city-dwellers who don’t have access to a backyard, now is the time to unite with your community and convert unused parks and green spaces to community farming spaces. We take for granted that we go to the store any time of year and get pretty much any type of produce we would like. We need to go further into local, community-sourced farming and eat with the seasons. We need to become more independent.

For those out of work, particularly in the food industry, the agricultural industry will likely not have access to the offshore workers they usually hire each year. Now, more than ever, they will require local help. If you live in an agricultural community (as I do), go visit your local farmers and see what kind of help they need.

Finance

From a financial perspective, I have seen article after article about what an opportunity this recent market crash has presented for younger generations (particularly the millennials). They will be able to buy stocks at incredibly low prices and watch their portfolio build. My only caution with this is that with Uranus in Taurus, there could be some significant changes around our financial systems. I also don’t think we have seen the bottom yet, so I wouldn’t start buying things up just quite yet. (Note that I am not a financial astrologer, and I am only speculating.) I have heard some extreme theories, though, about the possible end of the U.S. dollar as a world reserve currency as well as the complete destruction of our financial system as we know it.

Regardless of what happens with the financial markets, Uranus in Taurus will be deconstructing our notions of wealth. When our health and social well-being is threatened, our ideas of wealth can instantly change. If we are trending towards possible reformations of financial systems, those organizations or individuals who are able to provide goods or services with this in mind will come out on top.

Now let’s talk about cash. I don’t think it’s far-fetched to say that within seven years from now, the way we pay for goods and services will have substantially changed and cash will be a thing of the past. We are moving towards a digital currency, and this virus epidemic is a convenient way for us to get there faster. We are seeing signs at stores saying – no cash, only credit – because of the health risk cash could potentially pose to the handler. These no cash practices might not change, and may become the new standard.

Most of us will survive this epidemic and will be able to rebuild most of what was lost during these austere times though it might take longer than expected.

I always associate the planet Uranus with the Greek myth of Prometheus who stole fire from the gods to give to people on earth who were cold and starving. Yes, it’s a bit of a Robin Hood tale (and I am not suggesting we become socialists or steal from anyone) but we have an opportunity here from a human perspective to ensure the needs of many supersede the needs of a few. Let’s all do our parts.
