So long, farewell dear Jupiter in Sagittarius. It has been a blast.
On the 2nd day of December, Jupiter moves from its domicile (most treasured) placement to its fall (most challenged) placement in the sign of Capricorn where it will spend the next year. Not only does Jupiter struggle being in the sign of Capricorn—I mean, how could it not when Jupiter is all about expansion, growth and optimism while Capricorn is mostly about structure, restriction and realism/skepticism—but Jupiter will also join Pluto and Saturn in the sign of Capricorn (oh yeah, and the Nodes) so it’s going to be a messy, complicated ride. But more on that in my next post.
On December 8, the Sun squares Neptune which can feel a bit confusing.
Don’t be surprised if you feel things are a bit muddled.
On December 9, Mercury, the planet ruling communications, finally leaves moody Scorpio and heads into Sagittarius.
If you know anyone with a natal Mercury in Sagittarius, you will know that, unless they have other mitigating factors, usually whatever enters their head exits their mouths without much processing. If you want a truly honest opinion, ask a Mercury in Sag individual. If you can’t handle the actual truth, maybe don’t ask too many questions for a few weeks. Forthrightness aside, Sagittarius definitely lightens the mood and the secretive nature of Scorpio is overtaken by a desire to share.
This month’s Full Moon is in the sign of Gemini on December 12.
It can illuminate the parts of your chart (namely the house) that contains approximately 20 degrees of Gemini.
Friday the 13th arrives the following day with a Venus-Pluto conjunction which can intensify relationships and/or financial matters for a day or so. But, the weekend ends with a lucky Jupiter-Uranus trine, the likes of which we won’t see again for nine years, so all in all, it’s pretty nice.
Venus, which has been in duty-bound Capricorn for weeks, enters forward-thinking and freedom-loving Aquarius on December 20.
Aquarius favours a collective and cool form of relating to others so you might be more drawn to group activities over the next several weeks. (A Venus-Uranus square on the 22 only emphasizes this style of relating, so go with it!)
December 21 signals the final season change of 2019—the Winter Solstice.
As you know, this marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. As dreary as the next few months can feel, technically, the days will be getting a bit longer. The Sun enters Capricorn on the Winter Solstice, and the attention turns to achievement, commitment and discipline.
Christmas Eve sees a Sun-Uranus trine.
Look out for some new traditions or something original or unique.
Christmas and Boxing Day (depending on your time zone) will also be interesting days.
There is a Solar Eclipse at 4 degrees of Capricorn happening in the late evening/early morning of the holidays.
Since Jupiter is involved in this eclipse, it will likely be on the more positive side. Remember though, things aren’t what they seem when there is an eclipse as part of the luminary remains hidden, so it’s always best to wait a few days on either side of an eclipse before embarking on a new journey. (Trust me – I am speaking from personal experience.)
The final days of December include a Sun-Jupiter conjunction on December 27 keeping the spirits high.
And Mercury’s entrance into Capricorn where some more discreet and well-thought-out communications clean up the Mercury in Sagittarius free-for-all that has been happening the last few weeks. The year ends on a fairly positive note.
My best wishes for a safe, healthy and cozy Christmas for you and your family.
I look forward to speaking with you again in 2020!
Until next time astro friends,
Melanie
