The first few months of 2021 really introduce us to the major themes that will be playing out this year. While there are a few sweet moments this month, the first exact Saturn-Uranus square (and a Mercury retrograde) will dominate most of this month’s headlines.
Feb 1 – Sun square Mars & Venus enters Aquarius
You might feel a bit jacked up, competitive (and irritable) when the Sun squares Mars today. It doesn’t exactly scream tact and patience, so be aware.
Venus, the planet presiding over relationships and what we like spending on money on, also leaves steadfast Capricorn and enters Aquarius. Venus in Aquarius is kind of the definition of free love, so with this influence, relationships leave the earthy zone which can be sensual in its own way, and enters the friend zone, where it’s much more about connecting with others on a mental and emotional level than getting hot and heavy. Venus is the fifth planet to enter Aquarius and joins the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn in the sign.
Feb 6 – Venus conjunct Saturn and square Uranus
Saturn and Uranus cramp Venus’s style today when their square plays out on Venus. It’s not the best day for big promises or big purchases. Relationships can be rocky.
Feb 8 – Sun conjunct Mercury
The Sun-Mercury conjunction usually indicates about the halfway mark in the Mercury retrograde cycle. Today’s a great day to brainstorm ideas (but just don’t put them into practice until Mercury goes direct). The Sun’s rays could illuminate some new ways of thinking.
Feb 10 – Mercury square Mars & 6 planets in Aquarius!
Today’s not the day to hold events like, say, a mediation, a marriage ceremony or to sign any written agreements. Not only is Mercury retrograde but it’s making a square to Mars which indicates at best, impatience, at worst obnoxious aggression and arguments. The Moon in Aquarius is also caught up in a conjunction with Saturn and square to Uranus making the tension palpable. There are now six planets all in the sign of Aquarius: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Look to where the sign of Aquarius falls in your natal chart to see what house will have this focus. For me, it’s my 4th house so I know that matters relating to my home life will be key during this time. I also have two planets in Aquarius (Mercury and Mars) which will be triggered during this time. What house and what planets (if any) will be in the spotlight for you?
Feb 11 – New Moon at 23 degrees Aquarius & Venus conjunct Jupiter
While the Mercury-Mars square will still be lingering (but at least starting to separate), a New Moon at 23 degrees of Aquarius ushers in a new start to the next few weeks. The Moon goes void of course right after making its conjunction to the Sun. (So by just after 2 pm, the Moon won’t be applying to any aspect until it shifts into the sign of Pisces at 2:23 am the following morning. This is something to keep in mind when considering implementing any new ideas or plans.) The good news story today is really the beautiful Venus-Jupiter conjunction. When these two beauties meet up, the love (and excess) is flowing. Enjoy the optimism and the cuddly vibes. It’s really overall a lovely day.
Feb 13 & 14 – Mercury conjunct Venus and Jupiter in Aquarius
February is quite overshadowed by the Saturn-Uranus square, but look, Mercury’s conjunction to Venus and then to Jupiter adds a nice flow, desire for peace and optimism to this weekend’s activities. Enjoy the Valentine’s Day weekend!
Feb 17 – Saturn square Uranus hit #1
Here we go. The first of three exact Saturn-Uranus squares this year. And the Moon is also exactly conjunct Uranus this same day. Sheesh. Hold onto your hats. Fasten those seatbelts. Hit the deck. We’re officially starting the major theme of 2021: the revolutionary clash between the old and the new, the traditional and the up-and-coming, boundaries and freedom. Feb 18 – Sun enters Pisces
This astrologer’s birthday always falls when the Sun enters 0 degrees of Pisces. What can I say? I have a soft spot in my heart for lots of different signs, but Pisces is one of my softest spots. For the next month, the Sun will move through this compassionate, sensitive and emotional sign. I’m not sure we’ll be able to feel a whole lot of it given the very dominant Saturn-Uranus square, but in the background somewhere, if you can tap into the little moments of peace and serenity, you can find a mystical pink fog, some poetry, a glass of rosé or two or three (let’s face it – it’s Pisces after all) and a romantic comedy. Escaping has never looked so good.
Feb 19 – Venus square Mars
Venus square Mars = Love is a battlefield. It might seem like starting a fight today over issue X is a good idea, but it’s not really. Bite your tongue and let a few more days pass before deciding how much this matters.
Feb 20 – Mercury direct
Mercury stations direct – yay! But the planet will be travelling at a reduced speed for another week. So, if you can wait to start that important project, then it’s best to do so. If not, simply proceed with caution.
Feb 25 – Venus enters Pisces
Venus enters its exalted (read: happy) place in the sign of Pisces today. I have to say that people with Venus in Pisces placements have the most gentle and kind demeanours when that Venus is allowed to shine through. So, try to tap into the dreamy creativity of this placement over the next few weeks. Retreat with some creative writing. Listen to music. Meditate. Lend a compassionate ear to a friend. Find something that makes your heart sing and do it just to hear your heart sing.
Feb 27 – Full Moon in Virgo at 8 degrees 57 minutes
A Full Moon at nearly 9 degrees of Virgo closes off the end of the month. This Full Moon is a gentle nudging reminder that we need to balance the practical with the mystical; we need to ensure compassion is always part of our service to others; and we need to appreciate those who attend to the details in our lives as they keep us on the straight and narrow.
