March 2020 Forecast

Tree in water

Some interesting things are happening in the skies this month. Remember, Mercury is still retrograde heading into March, so this acts as a backdrop to the first part of the month.

You could run into some roadblocks on March 3 when Venus squares Saturn.

In general terms, Venus rules relationships and financial matters while Saturn is the reality check (often the Debbie Downer) of the zodiac. The square aspect means there is a challenge here usually in the form of some sort of strain.

The next day, Mercury, the planet ruling communications, re-enters the sign of Aquarius as it travels backwards in the sky.

It will stay here only for a few days. These are the same degrees Mercury already travelled through in the first few days of February, so you could find yourself re-doing or re-visiting something you thought was finished back in early February. Later this evening, Venus enters Taurus, a sign in which she loves being. This will be a nice shift away from impatient Aries.

March 8 could see some confusion and/or surprises with a Sun-Neptune conjunction as well as a Venus-Uranus conjunction that day.

These combinations could be great for artistic or spiritual work as inspiration could be high but could prove to also be a bit unpredictable.

There’s a Full Moon at 19 degrees of Virgo on March 9.

The Full Moon always represents the blossoming of the flower. In this case, the Virgo Moon asks you to let go of the need for perfection and just “be” in the still waters of Pisces. Mercury officially goes direct later that evening, but will be in its storm period (moving less than 40 minutes of arc per day) for eleven more days. So, don’t expect communications, technology or transportation issues to completely resolve for nearly two more weeks, but we are certainly heading in the right direction (literally) now! Mercury re-enters Pisces on March 16 and leaves Aquarius behind for the year.

On March 19, the Sun says goodbye to Pisces and enters the sign of Aries just before midnight.

The focus shifts now from sensitive, dreamy waters to the pioneering and independent firecracker of a sign for the next month. The Sun likes being in a fire sign and is considered exalted in the sign of Aries, so this works well. The shift from Pisces to Aries also indicates the Spring Equinox has arrived. In addition to being equal length day and night, the Equinox also signals that the Sun starts moving north of the celestial equator, ushering in more sunshine and warmer temperatures in the days ahead. The next day (March 20), Mercury FINALLY moves out of its storm, and Mercurial matters should be back to normal functioning.

March 21 just before midnight is kind of a big deal as Saturn moves into the sign of Aquarius.

It’s going to be a short stint as it has one last retrograde period in Capricorn from July until mid-December 2020, but for a few months, we get a taste of Saturn in Aquarius. How is Saturn in Aquarius going to act differently than Saturn in Capricorn? Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign which means it is action-oriented seeking material results. It is traditional, status-conscious and exceptionally hard-working. Aquarius, on the other hand, is a fixed air sign which means it is very interested in thoughts and the solidifying of ideas. Aquarius is known for being future-oriented and group-focused if not a bit obstinate in its opinions. Saturn does equally well in both signs. But more about this in 2021. If you have any planets or angles in the first few degrees of a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius) or the final few degrees of a cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), Saturn’s brief dip into Aquarius will be particularly important for you during this period. (For example, I have a late degree cardinal sign Ascendant and an early degree fixed Midheaven so I am expecting to feel it as Saturn squares my Ascendant and then opposes my Midheaven.)

March 23 might be another one to mark on the calendar if you have any cardinal planets around 24 degrees. (Gulp!)

Mars and Pluto will meet up in the sign of Capricorn (with Saturn only six degrees past this conjunction) making for an intense line-up of malefic planets. As Mars moves past Pluto a few days later, it heads toward Saturn, leaving one intense situation for another. Mars and Pluto together mean significant power and control issues and possible violence. This influence will be felt a few days before March 23 and a few days afterwards.

There’s a New Moon at 4 degrees of Aries at 5:28 am on March 24.

New Moons are usually great times for initiating new projects. Given the intensity of the Mars-Pluto-Saturn line-up and the stress it is putting on this New Moon, this might not be the best time to initiate a project. But you won’t have to wait long.

My favourite days this month?

On March 27 and 28, a content Moon in Taurus sends several nice aspects (trines and sextiles) to planets promoting a harmonious conversation in the sky. Also, Venus in Taurus trines Jupiter in Capricorn which is a pretty nice combo. Yes, the intense Mars-Pluto-Saturn line-up is still there, but the Moon and Jupiter are working with it. So, if you are looking to start some new activities this month, these are my favourite days to do it. (Just make it happen before 4 pm on the 28th.)

On March 30, Mars leaves Capricorn and enters the sign of Aquarius.

The result is a bit more nervous, even slightly frenetic energy. The very next day, Mars is officially conjunct Saturn in Aquarius (although we will have been feeling this for a few days prior). Mars and Saturn together are like hitting the gas pedal (Mars) and the brake pedal (Saturn) at the same time which results in frustration at minimum, if not broken parts. This influence will take us into the first days of April.
