The first week of May starts off with a beautiful New Moon in Taurus on Saturday, May 4.
The New Moon in Taurus is one of my favourite New Moons of the year. It really ushers in plentiful growth. My former astrology teacher used to swear by planting her gardens each year on this New Moon – no matter what time it occurred. People used to comment on her luscious greenery, and she would just smile when they asked her what her secret was. Even if you’re not planting your literal gardens, it is a wonderful time for beginning new ventures in Taurus-related fields: finance, luxurious possessions, food/diet, the arts, and doing, really, any work that requires your sensual side. The Moon is very much at home in the sign of Taurus, and Uranus is far enough past their conjunction that it shouldn’t interfere.
On Monday, May 6, Mercury leaves brash and energetic Aries and enters the sign of Taurus as well.
Communications take on a more measured and thoughtful tone over the next several weeks which will probably be a welcome break as Aries has instilled a bit of a manic energy these last few weeks.
Then, on Wednesday, May 15, Venus leaves Aries (the sign of its detriment) and joins the Sun and Mercury in Taurus (the sign of its dignity).
As someone with a natal Venus in Aries (ugh), I can speak from experience at how refined and beautiful a Venus in Taurus really is. (Yes, I have Venus-envy.) You should notice a fundamental shift… Perhaps you will literally stop to smell the roses!
That same day, Mars, which has been in the multi-tasking, somewhat scattered sign of Gemini, moves into tentative Cancer. Unfortunately, Mars struggles in the sign of Cancer because Mars’ essential nature of vitality, power and force is so contrary to Cancer’s desire to nurture and emote in a protected environment. You might welcome a more calm approach after the immense busyness of Gemini; however, it can also feel a bit demotivating. So, in one day, we are leaving behind air (Gemini) and fire (Aries) and moving into earth (Taurus) and water (Cancer) which is a stabilizing and calming influence but could be slightly lethargic. Just don’t plan on conquering the world during the next few days, and instead, enjoy the downtime because it doesn’t last too long.
Saturday, May 18 is another interesting day to watch as Venus is conjunct Uranus.
Whenever Venus and Uranus get together, there can be unexpected turns of events especially in terms of relationships, finances and the arts. Depending, of course, on your personal natal chart, you could experience an unexpected breakthrough of some kind, some flash of insight.
Or, it could act as a bit of destabilizing influence given the Full Moon in Scorpio that same day. One of my students works as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at our local hospital, and she has noticed fascinating correlations with overdoses and severe medical/psychological issues based on the phases of the Moon. There is a reason why people joke about Full Moons. And, this particular one will be amped up thanks to Uranus.
On Tuesday, May 21, the Sun leaves Taurus and enters Gemini and within a few hours, Mercury also leaves Taurus and joins the Sun in Gemini.
The slower pace of the last week or picks up dramatically with lots of chatting, comings and goings. This is definitely a more social energy, and it’s a great time to focus on ideas (Gemini) instead of things (Taurus). This energy continues into the beginning of June.
