First off, can I just say how much I love this photo for October’s forecast? We get the dark and witchy Scorpio vibe but still maintain the beauty and balance (check out those pumpkin scales!) of Libra.
So, as I write this forecast at the end of September, Mercury is stationing retrograde, and it’s already been a doozy.
I had the pleasure of speaking at the Canadian Astrology Conference held online September 24-26, 2021. It was a lot of fun, and the organizers were fabulous to work with. And now next week, I get to sit down with Mj Patterson to be a guest on her radio show! The show airs Friday, October 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm EDT (6 – 7 pm in Halifax). You can stream it here!
In the meantime, enjoy the forecast:
October 6 – New Moon in Libra & Pluto stations direct
The first lunation of the month occurs on October 6. It’s a New Moon in Libra at 13 degrees.
This New Moon beckons a cooperative and compromising approach to your relationships and urges you to get your life back in balance if you’ve swung too far in one direction over the summer. Contradicting this desire for balance and harmony, however, is Pluto’s change of direction that same day. With its now forward motion, the planet of crisis and transformation will prompt all of us to confront issues we’ve been sweeping aside over the past five months. Get ready to have some difficult conversations. With Mercury retrograde, it’s possible that unresolved past issues in communications/plans rise to the surface.
October 7 – Venus enters Sagittarius
Today Venus leaves behind intense Scorpio and enters friendly Sagittarius. Venus relaxes and opens up in this fiery sign, and its focus shifts from one-on-one fixations to a more than merrier attitude.
Those born with Venus in Sagittarius are usually quite open-minded in their relationships. They often end up with someone from a different country or culture. There’s an optimism and enthusiasm in this placement, and I think it will be a welcome change. Try stepping outside of your normal aptitudes for art, food or culture. Experimenting in these ways could prove rewarding over the next few weeks!
October 8 & 9 – Sun, Mercury & Mars meet-up
The Sun, Mercury and Mars are all meeting up in the sign of Libra for a couple of days. Mercury’s conjunction to the Sun signals the halfway point in its retrograde cycle (thank goodness!). When Mercury and Mars get together, there is usually a direct (if not blunt) and eager (if not impatient) spin on communications. With both planets in Libra, this will be somewhat tempered, but there could be a feeling of wanting to push ahead in some ways, but not being able to. Having to play nice might feel a bit annoying especially with the Sun and Mars connected as well. The Sun and Mars are often frustrated in the sign of Libra as their essential natures are somewhat limited or restricted by having to show diplomacy and put others first.
The best use of this energy is to carefully consider your path ahead: which areas is it essential that you push or advocate for and which areas of life can sit for a bit or require more of a diplomatic approach?
October 10 – Saturn stations direct
Saturn stations direct today at 6 degrees 52 minutes of Aquarius. The good news for those who have fixed signs or angles between 6 and 17 degrees: this will be Saturn’s last hit for you. When Saturn next goes retrograde in June 2022, it will only get as far back as 18 degrees of Aquarius before it stations direct once more. Hang in there; relief is just up ahead!
October 15 – Sun-Moon-Jupiter meet-up
This just feels like a nice day: The Moon and Jupiter are conjunct and both are trine the Moon. Just a little bright spot to note!
October 18 – Mercury and Jupiter station direct
Mercury and Jupiter both station direct today. While we won’t feel the results from the direct stations immediately as it takes awhile for both planets to get up to speed, there will definitely be a step in the right direction! (Mercury leaves its storm on October 23 so communications, technology and transportation should start returning to normal by then.) Jupiter’s station direct makes me pretty excited because this means that it will start making its way forward through Aquarius. The planet gets back into Pisces on December 30. The countdown is officially on for this early degree Pisces Sun and Moon. Woot!)
October 20 – Full Moon in Aries
This Full Moon at 27 degrees of Aries forms a T-square with the Sun, Mars and Pluto. That’s pretty intense cardinal energy. It could be hard to reign things in today, so all I can say is to try to have a “less is more” approach as much as possible.
October 22 – Sun enters Scorpio while Mars squares Pluto
The Sun gets quite the entrance into Scorpio today as Scorpio’s rulers—Mars and Pluto—also form a challenging square this same day. Intensity much? I always suggest caution with this particular square as it can indicate sudden violence.
The Sun’s entrance into Scorpio means the focus shifts from beauty and balance to passion and intensity. There’s a desire to not accept things at face value, to dig deep, to feel everything. I mean, is it any coincidence that Halloween falls under a Scorpio Sun?
October 26 – Venus square Neptune
Venus-Neptune squares are good days for escaping into art and beauty of most kinds, but they’re maybe not the best day for clear-headed thinking about relationships or finances. Keep that in the back of your mind today as you go about your day.
October 30 – Mars enters Scorpio
Mars leaves Libra behind and enters one of its favourite places—Scorpio. Astrologers often compare the force of Mars in Aries to using an axe or chainsaw while Mars in Scorpio is more like a scalpel—sharp, steel and meticulous. Over the next few weeks, don’t be surprised if some of the conflicts you’ve been trying to avoid under Libra’s influence, appear in front of you demanding to be dealt with. With Mercury now at normal speed, this will be a good time for clearing the air and moving forward in a constructive way.
Until next month!
